While a Reiki 1 course can be a life changing experience, it is understandable that participants can have lingering doubts about its effectiveness following a Reiki class.

It is only through the experience of doing regular self Reiki treatments after a Reiki training that doubts subside.

self reiki treatmentsAt my Reiki courses in Dublin I get a broad spectrum of personalities represented.
People come from all backgrounds and walks of life. However, the one thing most adults have in common is a doubt in their ability to administer Reiki healing effectively.

Reiki energy is a natural healing method which is not academically challenging. It is a stretch for most adults to accept that they do not need to be directing Reiki with their conscious mind.
It flows naturally to where it is needed at all times.

I love hearing the feedback from people who attend my Reiki Trainings in Dublin. It is a joy to witness people let go of their doubt and self limitations following Reiki 1 courses.

Below is a story written by a lady who has completed her Reiki classes in Dublin with me.
Despite the voices of doubt in her head about Reiki, she kept using it.
As you will read from her story, she is very glad that she had Reiki healing to help her at a very challenging time in her life.

How Reiki Healing helped Jeanette even though she had doubts that it could!

“I did the Reiki 1, Reiki 2 and Advanced Reiki Practitioner Courses over the 2000 and 2001 period.
I knew then intuitively that this was real, but my conscious mind could not let go and trust the Universal Reiki Energy. I continued to give myself Reiki over the next few years, but my conscious mind was always doubtful.

Then my husband became ill. That was when Reiki healing proved itself to my conscious mind. I used Reiki with every situation I had to cope with. My husband recovered from complete paralysis of one side to being able to look after himself again much quicker than his doctors expected, and I coped with the process of finalising his involvement in his business over a six month period.

Through it all I had a calmness of mind, felt no worry, fear, anger or any other negative emotion. Since then I have done the Reiki Teacher Training Course which was of great benefit as it helped my conscious mind and inner being to work as one.

So, my advice to anyone who does not have dramatic results, or has doubts when first coming to Reiki, is to stay with it and practise regularly – through the doubts. The energy is working with you quietly in the background. It knows your intentions and it will prove itself when you most need it.

I’m glad I continued to practise through my doubts in the beginning, but I stayed with it because my ‘still small voice’ kept telling me – ‘this is all there is, this is what you have been searching for – for a long time’.

Every where you go, Reiki training is advertised. There has been confusion about how Reiki training in Ireland is structured, the format and content that should be included in Reiki classes, and the general standard of Reiki teaching being marketed.

Reiki teaching in Ireland does not undergo statutory regulation. This explains the lack of uniformity in all level s of Reiki courses available.

In 2002, I co-founded Reiki Federation Ireland (RFI). This is an organisation that promotes high standards of Reiki training and Reiki practice in Ireland. Anyone who has attended a Reiki 1 course can join RFI. Reiki practitioners have the option of being listed on the RFI Reiki practitioner listing.

While Reiki Federation Ireland asks all members to adhere to their guidelines, they are not a regulating body. Therefore, RFI does not accredit Reiki practitioners or teachers in Ireland. I encourage people to do their own due diligence on any Reiki training they might be considering before committing to a Reiki course.

I have been involved in teaching Reiki in Ireland since 1996. During that time I have witnessed the growth and popularity of Reiki in Dublin and other towns across the country. I have also observed the many different types of Reiki being marketed and the tendency of some facilitators to include concepts and techniques in their Reiki courses, which in essence have nothing to do with Reiki. This can prove very confusing for the general public.

In their constitution, Reiki Federation Ireland does their best to draw the distinction between Reiki and other therapies being offered. They clearly state that if their members are practicing or using other therapies with Reiki, that they must be clearly stated. The paragraph below is taken from the constitution of RFI.

‘RFI does not recognise any other therapy (e.g. Angel therapy, Crystal therapy) as part of the Reiki system of healing.  While these therapies are sometimes used in conjunction with Reiki, it is imperative that the client and Reiki students are informed of the clear distinction between Reiki and other healing modalities. Reiki is an individual healing art in its own right.’

How many Reiki Courses do I need to attend?

Reiki 1 training in Ireland

The first level of Reiki training is a Reiki 1 course. All of my Reiki classes in Dublin are taught over two days. This is considered the standard time frame for Reiki 1 courses in Ireland. Some Adult Education colleges offer evening Reiki 1 classes which are taught over a period of six to eight weeks. I have a preference for the two day option.

Under guidelines for Reiki 1 training Ireland you should be taught how to do Reiki on yourself and be shown how to offer Reiki to other people. It is important that participants are given adequate time to practice Reiki on each other. Reiki explained as an energy therapy, the benefits of Reiki and the history of Reiki are among topics to be included at this Reiki 1 course.

If you just wish to enjoy using Reiki on yourself, it is not necessary to attend further Reiki courses.

Reiki 2 Courses in Ireland

A Reiki 2 course is open to anyone who has done Reiki 1, and who has
an interest in deepening their understanding of Reiki.
The standard time for a Reiki 2 course is two days.
My Reiki 2 classes in Dublin are facilitated at weekends.

In traditional Reiki, participants are introduced to three Reiki 2 symbols which look like kanji. It is understood that these have their own vibration and frequency.
The Reiki teacher instructs the group on how to integrate these visual aids to empower the Reiki energy. Reiki as an energy therapy is also expanded upon at this level of training. There is lots of time for Reiki treatments during this Reiki 2 course.

Reiki Practitioner Training in Ireland

Reiki Federation Ireland has guidelines for topics that should be included at this
level of training. I call this module, the Advanced Practitioner Reiki course.
All such Reiki classes facilitated by me are held over two days.

This level is open to anyone interested in evolving their understanding of Reiki
and to those planning on doing Reiki treatments professionally.
Further information on course content can be found on my website.

Reiki 3 Training and Reiki Teacher training level

Traditionally, the final level of Reiki training is known as Reiki 3.
I offer a weekend Reiki 3 course in Dublin for people who wish to attend this level exclusively for their own self development. Participants who attend receive the Reiki 3 Master symbol. I do not show participants how to attune others to Reiki at this weekend course.

In my module of Reiki training, if you wish to learn how to attune others to Reiki and how to facilitate Reiki classes you must attend the Reiki teacher training programme. This is taught over a period of months on a part time basis. During the programme participants attend and observe all levels of Reiki training courses. They are also given a comprehensive training in how to facilitate Reiki classes. Each attendee is shown how to attune others to Reiki and is given the Reiki 3 Master symbol.

It is not necessary to attend the Reiki 3 weekend course, if you plan on doing the Reiki teacher training level.

A Reiki 2 Course is the second level of Reiki training. Anyone who has completed a Reiki 1 class can attend.

Most Reiki 2 classes are held over two days. It is not necessary to do your Reiki 2 training with the same Reiki teacher that taught you Reiki 1. However, most people prefer to continue with the same Reiki facilitator for the duration of their Reiki training.

Each Reiki teacher has their own style of teaching. There are also now many brands of Reiki on the market. The original form of traditional Reiki training, Usui Reiki, introduces three Reiki symbols or Reiki keys at the Reiki 2 course.

These look like pictograms and are in essence visual aids that are used in conjunction with the Reiki energy that already is flowing through participants since Reiki 1.

It is understood that each Reiki symbol has a frequency and resonance specific to itself.

The Reiki teacher explains how Reiki symbols can be of help while doing Reiki treatments.

While a Reiki two class is the forum to discuss the Reiki 2 symbols, the basics of each symbol can be outlined here.

Reiki symbols can be used when doing self Reiki or when giving Reiki treatments to other people. If a Reiki symbol comes into the consciousness of the person offering Reiki, it is used. Just being aware of a Reiki symbol is enough to activate the vibration specific to it.

The first symbol is known as the power symbol. It is used to empower both mind and body. Looking at this symbol or recalling it, can give a person an energy boost and confidence boost. On a physical level, it can help with momentum and is used in conditions where the immune system is compromised. In wider situations this symbol can also be used to empower goals and intentions.

The second Reiki 2 symbol given at Reiki 2 classes is used to bring balance to the emotional and mental aspects of a person. This is used primarily during self Reiki and Reiki treatments. Animals also have an emotional aspect and can benefit from this symbol during a Reiki treatment.

The last Reiki 2 symbol is known as the distance Reiki symbol and when focused upon can assist in sending Reiki remotely. The technique used in sending distance Reiki is discussed and shown in detail at Reiki 2.

An experienced Reiki teacher will ensure that everyone is comfortable doing Reiki treatments along with the symbols during the two days. Revision of what was discussed at Reiki 1 is also very desirable. Many questions come up between level 1 of Reiki training and Reiki 2 and it is important that all queries are answered.

Most participants find that attending a Reiki 2 course enhances what they received at their Reiki 1 class. A lot of people comment on the Reiki energy feeling more powerful following Reiki 2.

Imagine having a renewed sense of energy on waking every morning.
Would you like to be more relaxed in how you think?
How about having the energy you need to enjoy your children and balance
a busy work life and your family. If you would like a life more in the flow,
then a Reiki course might be the answer for you.

About Reiki

Reiki is a form of natural healing. It is a gentle energy therapy which everyone can benefit from. The two ways to experience Reiki are to have a reiki treatment or to learn how to do Reiki for yourself by attending a Reiki 1 Course.

What is involved in having a Reiki treatment?

A Reiki treatment is a very relaxing experience. It takes one hour.
You remain fully clothed, only removing your shoes if you wish to for comfort.
During the Reiki treatment, you lie down on a comfortable massage table,
unless you are unable to get on to the table. A Reiki chair treatment is given in such situations.

Reiki practitioners may ask you to remove heavy jewellery before the treatment.
Reiki is non manipulative. The practitioner uses a sequence of Reiki positions on or over the body.
The Reiki energy is then absorbed by the client, going to where it is needed.
Sensations felt during Reiki treatments can include heat, tingling or a cool sensation.
Most clients drift into a deep state of relaxation and many clients fall asleep.

The Benefit of attending a Reiki 1 Course

A Reiki 1 class is very beneficial because you learn how to administer Reiki to yourself.
At Reiki 1 courses you are shown how to do a self Reiki treatment, so that you can use Reiki on an ongoing basis at home. Imagine being able to experience deep relaxation every day. The beauty of Reiki is that it is easy to learn and easy to give to oneself. You could even give yourself some Reiki on a bus or train on your way to work. Every time you use Reiki, you empower your energy reserves and also help to reduce your stress levels. Most Reiki 1 classes are held over two days.

Hospitals recognise the many benefits of Reiki

Reiki is gaining increasing respect within conventional medicine.
Not only are highly respected hospitals offering reiki treatments to their patients, they are also now analyzing the benefits of reiki treatments and submitting them for review.

New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Campus conducted one of the first studies ever performed to determine the effectiveness of Reiki treatments on the autonomic nervous system. This “blind, random study” included a Reiki treatment group, a “sham” treatment group and a “control” group. The testing began with all participants at “baseline” autonomic nervous systems levels. The results within the Reiki treatment group showed a lowering of these levels including heart rate, respiration and blood pressure. These positive results led the team to recommend further, larger studies to look at the biological effects of Reiki treatment.

Reiki is a very gentle hands on healing technique that anyone can learn how to do.
Used widely in hospitals worldwide this energy therapy is recognised by many doctors as
a natural method to bring about long term relaxation.

Easy to learn, Reiki when self administered helps to relax breathing and reduce blood pressure.
Those who use Reiki on themselves often report that they sleep better as a result of using Reiki.

Reiki Training

Reiki is very easy to learn, and is usually taught over two days.
A Reiki 1 course is the starting off point for Reiki training.
As Reiki is unregulated in many countries, make sure you do your research before choosing a teacher.

What happens at a Reiki 1 course?

The Reiki teacher outlines what Reiki is, the potentials that lie within this Reiki energy therapy
and shows the group how to administer self – Reiki and how to share Reiki with friends or family.
The group should be given time to practice doing Reiki chair and Reiki table treatments on themselves.
Most Reiki teachers give participants a Reiki manual to take away following the Reiki class.
The content and standard of Reiki courses vary according to the facilitator.

Reiki is Easy to Use on yourself

The beauty of Reiki is that it is user friendly.
You can give yourself some Reiki while sitting on a bus, or a train.
In such situations you could use Reiki positions that focus on your stomach area
so that you do not draw attention to yourself.

If you have difficulty sleeping, Reiki yourself in bed last thing at night and you
might be surprised at how well you sleep.

Here is how Reiki helped Stephanie relax and sleep better

Stephanie did her Reiki 1 course in Dublin, Ireland and used Reiki on herself every
day after her Reiki class.

Here is what she had to say about Reiki:
“I did it while watching TV, on the bus, in work, before bed: anytime and any place I could. I have only had two bad night’s sleep since doing the course, which is unbelievable, and my migraines have completely disappeared. I cannot describe what a relief this is.” – Stephanie Mahon, Dublin
